Get a Beer (or a Coffee) and Undo Nonprofit Power Dynamics Day (GBUNPD) is June 21

Join the SIF team and our partners for Coffee & Donuts 2.0

In 2017, when Vu Le declared a holiday – “Get a Beer and Undo Nonprofit Power Dynamics (GBUNPD)” Day – the Social Innovation Forum (SIF) team knew that this type of holiday was right in line with our mission of building the capacity of both local nonprofit leaders and funders and bringing them together intentionally in non-hierarchical relationships to accelerate social change in greater Boston.

Inspired by Vu’s call to action, SIF quickly formed a host committee of more than a dozen funders and organized an informal event to help funders and nonprofit leaders come together with no agenda, “to see each other as human beings and to help decrease the power dynamics so present in our sector.” At our first Coffee & Donuts to Decrease Funder/Nonprofit Power Dynamics, 160 people packed into SIF headquarters for coffee, conversation, and connection across the funder/nonprofit divide.

This year, we worked directly with Vu to select a date and garner support for the holiday prior to Vu announcing it on his blog, Nonprofit AF. Social Innovation Forum put out a call to our colleagues in the sector and in less than a week we gathered an impressive host committee of leading Boston area funders and funder collaboratives/membership associations committed to making 2018’s holiday an even bigger success and to maintain its momentum to build the types of relationships necessary in our sector to tackle our most pressing social issues.

So please join us in saving the date for GBUNPD Day and SIF’s Coffee & Donuts 2.0 on Thursday, June 21, 2018. We look forward to coming together once again and to also challenging our colleagues across the country to bring together their nonprofit leaders and funders, whether over caffeine or cocktails, for conversation, connection, and collaboration.
