Impact Investing Showcase

Social Innovation Forum's 4th Annual Impact Investing Showcase to be held Thursday, April 7, 2016!

The Social Innovation Forum (SIF) will hold its 4th Annual Impact Investing Showcase on Thursday, April 7, 2016.

This event, the culmination of SIF’s intensive 12-week Social Business Accelerator program, will feature six social impact businesses that make up SIF’s 2016 “Impact Entrepreneur” cohort. Each entrepreneur will pitch to an audience of impact investors and business leaders who are deeply committed to offering their own skills, networks and resources to address entrenched social issues by supporting social entrepreneurs. In addition to highlighting the 2016 Impact Entrepreneurs, the Impact Investing Showcase will spark conversation about the best approaches for accelerating the performance of social enterprises and making investments in local social impact startups.

Impact Investing Showcase FAQ

What is it?
The Impact Investing Showcase is an opportunity to learn more about socially focused investment opportunities. At the Showcase, you will hear ptiches from each of the six social purpose businesses in our 2016 Impact Entrepreneur cohort. We have been working closely with these Entrepreneurs in our Social Business Accelerator over the past 12 weeks, and they are looking forward to sharing their progress with potential investors.

When and where is it?
The 2016 Impact Investing Showcase will take place on Thursday, April 7 from 8:00-10:00 am at Fidelity Investments in downtown Boston. We will provide you with detailed directions and logistics once we confirm your RSVP for the event.

How do I get a ticket?
Tickets are invitation only and are reserved primarily for potential investors. If you identify as a potential investor and wish to attend, please reach out to Marissa Silapaswan at impactinvesting@socialinnovationforum.org so we can learn more.

Can I request a second ticket for a guest?
We ask that you only refer a guest to us if they are a potential investor. If your guest is a potential investor who has expressed interest in our cohort businesses, then we would welcome an introduction to him or her in order to learn more.

How is the Impact Investing Showcase structured?
At the Showcase, each Entrepreneur in the 2016 cohort will pitch about their social impact businesses in under 10 minutes. The pitching session will be followed by time for networking and brief one-on-one meetings. This is a great time to introduce yourself, exchange business cards, and set-up a follow-up meeting.

What is the purpose of the Impact Investing Showcase?
The purpose of the Showcase is to help our Entrepreneurs raise capital. As social entrepreneurs, they are hoping to meet individuals who are looking for good investments with social impact. Ideally, a potential investor will have a shared passion for the entrepreneur’s mission.

If these businesses are socially focused, are they good investments?
These Entrepreneurs have built strong, for-profit business models that simultaneously address deeply entrenched national and global problems. Their profitable yet innovative products and services address issues like climate change, government transparency, healthcare access, and education inequality in sustainable ways. Our Entrepreneurs have structured their businesses so they can make both strong financial and social cases to interested investors.

What role does the Social Innovation Forum play during this process?
SIF's focus on cultivating impactful yet investment ready businesses puts us at the forefront of the impact investing landscape in greater Boston. We do not directly invest in our cohort businesses, but help prepare them to meet the right impact investors at places and events such as this one. This intermediary role has enabled us to build a strong network of impact investors that come from a range of philanthropic and traditional investor backgrounds.

Can I get information on the businesses pitching before the event?
You can learn more about the businesses in the 2016 Impact Entrepreneur cohort here. More detailed business information will be passed out on fact sheets at the event.

If I’m interested in learning more about a business after the event, how do I get in touch?
If you are interested in learning more about a business after the event, there are multiple ways to learn more. You can reach directly to the entrepreneur by using their contact information, which will be made available during the Showcase event. You can also come to our offices the following Tuesday, April 12 between 4:00-7:00 pm. At this time, small groups of potential investors will be convening to learn more from specific Entrepreneurs. If you are interested in attending this session after the Showcase, please email Marissa Silapaswan at impactinvesting@socialinnovationforum.org.
