Executive Coach
Executive Coach: January – December 2009 (12 months)
Skills/Experience:
- A seasoned management-level professional who has coached/mentored others with leadership and management responsibilities.
- Has an understanding of the strategic challenges that nonprofit leaders face (through either professional or volunteer work), and at the same time, can respectively share relevant management principles and practices from the business world.
- Experience networking in both large and small group settings and tapping into various professional and civic organizations.
- Experience following up with contacts, asking for support, and getting commitments.
- Comfortable working with entrepreneurial organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility: to work with the Social Innovator to help him/her develop relationships for the organization. The coach will concentrate on two areas of relationship building:
- Opportunities that emerge as a result of participation in the Social Innovation Forum;
- Those that build strategic relationships for the organization (e.g. deciding which community meetings the Social Innovator should attend; how they can work a room; who is in the organizational “family”).
- Secondary responsibility: to assist the Social Innovator in addressing issues in organization development, including staff development, board development or marketing/public relations, among others. Areas of focus will be determined based on the expertise of the coach and the needs of organization.
- Other responsibilities:
- Prepare the Social Innovator to deliver a 5-minute speech at a Social Issue Breakfast.
- Work with the Presentation Coach and Root Cause staff to help the Social Innovator prepare for the May 5 showcase event.
- Serve as a sounding board for the organization over the course of the coaching process.
- Participate in SIF-organized workshops and meetings as needed.
Time Commitment: Approximately 4 – 6 hours of volunteer coaching per month over 2009
- January – May: Approximately two to three hours per week. Executive Coaches must be able to commit to attend a minimum of two Wednesday morning meetings during this period. Specific meetings to be determined.
- June – December: Variable. The Executive Coach will continue to meet periodically with the Social Innovator to help them capitalize on leads coming out of our Showcase Event. Time commitment during this phase varies with the Social Innovator and his or her needs, but is significantly less than in the first phase.
